The SAR's tennis star, Coleman Wong, on Tuesday recorded the first senior Grand Slam victory of his career, after beating Chile's Cristian Garin in the first qualifying round of the US Open.
Wong went a set down, 4-6, before fighting back 7-6, 6-3 for the victory against Garin, who's now ranked 116th in the world but was once as high as 17th in 2021 and made it the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2022.
The Hong Kong, China player is currently ranked 38 spots lower than the Chilean.
Wong will next play Chinese Taipei's Hsu Yu-hsiou in the second round of qualifiers. Hsu is ranked 185th in the world.
There are three rounds of qualifiers in total.
The draw for the main round of the men's singles will be made at Friday midnight, Hong Kong time.
The 20-year-old Wong won the Australian Open junior doubles title two years ago.
