The Hang Seng Index climbed 97.17 points, or 0.55 percent to open at 17,709.27 points on Monday.

This week traders in the US and around the globe are awaiting earnings from chipmaking giant Nvidia, whose blistering run has powered markets throughout 2024.

The S&P 500 has pared a sharp drop it suffered after US economic worries contributed to a sell-off at the beginning of the month and it again stands near a fresh all-time high.
