President Xi Jinping on Thursday met with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Beijing on the third and final day of his visit to China.

"China's commitment to the stable, sound and sustainable development of China-US relations remains unchanged," Xi said during the meeting at the Great Hall of the People.

The president said bilateral ties should be developed based on mutual respect, peaceful co-existence and win-win cooperation.

Xi called on Washington to work with Beijing in the same direction, and view China and its development in a positive and rational manner.

"As two major countries, China and the United States should be responsible for history, for the people and for the world, and should be a source of stability for world peace and a propeller for common development," he said.

Sullivan said US President Joe Biden is committed to managing the relationship to avoid conflict.

"President Biden is committed to responsibly managing this consequential relationship to ensure the competition does not veer in the conflict or confrontation, and to work together where our interests align," Sullivan said.

"We are committed to maintaining high level diplomacy and to this end President Biden looks forward to engaging with you again in the coming weeks."

Since the start of his visit on Tuesday, Sullivan has met with high-ranking officials including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission. (Xinhua and agencies)
