A school bus ran into a group of students and parents in Shandong Province on Tuesday, killing 11 and injuring 13.

Five students and six parents were among the dead.

The incident happened after 7am at the gate of a secondary school in Tai'an City.

Authorities said the bus rammed into pedestrians standing at the roadside.

Among the injured, one person remained in critical condition while the others were stable.

Police said the bus driver has been detained and the cause of the disaster was still under investigation.
