The government's Working Group on Patriotic Education came out with a theme song on Tuesday.

Titled "Our Home", the song was sung by sub-group member Cally Kwong - a Cantopop singer who was active during the 1980s. She is also a local deputy to the National People's Congress.

"The city has been through a lot in the past years and I have always wanted to produce a song that could bring warmth to the people," she said.

Kwong also shared her favourite verses by singing it out loud when meeting the press.

Convenor Starry Lee revealed that it took them around a year to work on the project after deciding to roll out a song for promoting patriotism.

"We think that using [music] is one of the most effective means to [generate enthusiasm] because we all know that, especially children, teenagers, they all love songs. Actually not only students, teenagers, different ages of people, different sectors of people, go to karaoke, or when attending functions, they will choose songs to express their feelings," she said.

"I hope this song will become very popular among different ages, different people."

Lee, who's also the SAR's sole delegate to the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said production costs were low, adding Kwong does not claim any copyright to the song.

She pointed out that a USB-drive will be distributed to primary and secondary schools, so that they can sing the song during lesson time.

The government has also rolled out a karaoke version and has made a QR code available for the public to download it.

Lee called on everyone to sing the song before and after National Day.

She added many activities will be rolled out for the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and details will be announced later.
