Police have arrested 217 men and 45 women in a seven-week-long anti-narcotics operation. The suspects, aged 15 to 72, were detained on suspicion of manufacturing, trafficking, and dealing in dangerous drugs, as well as possession.
In the operation, codenamed Tailbacker, officers seized 695 kilos of suspected cocaine and 572 kilos of suspected marijuana with a total street value of HK$759 million. Police said most of the drugs were recovered from Kowloon East and Yuen Long.
Among those arrested, 33 were aged 20 or below. More than half of them were arrested for trafficking in dangerous drugs. Police said one of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy, was found with 34 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 8.6 grams of suspected ketamine.
During the operation, officers also seized a total of about 2.2 kilos of suspected etomidate, commonly known as "space oil".
