Hong Kong stocks opened lower on Monday, with investors cautious ahead of a US central bank meeting this week that's expected to result in a rate cut..

The Hang Seng Index was down 136.71 points, or 0.8 percent, at 17,232.38 in early trade.

Mainland markets are closed for the Mid-Autumn festival.
