Hong Kong stocks open lower in spite of Fed rate cut

The Hang Seng Index fell 26.09 points, or 0.15 percent, to open at 17,633.93 points on Thursday.

Overnight Wall Street stocks dipped after the Federal Reserve announced a half a percentage-point interest rate cut.

Fed chair Jerome Powell also promised a "careful" approach to lowering rates following progress in countering US inflation. (with additional reporting from Xinhua and AFP)
