Hong Kong is set to ring in the peak cruise season with over 100 port calls scheduled in the coming months, a level unseen since the Covid pandemic.

The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau revealed that 30 cruise lines will make a port call to the SAR this year, a two-thirds increase from 2023.

They include 11 ships which will sail into Victoria Harbour for the first time.

"The Kai Tak Cruise Terminal will be the home port of several mega cruise ships from different cruise lines, including Costa Cruises, Holland America Line, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, the Cunard Line, and TUI Cruises," the bureau said in a Facebook post.

It is also optimistic about the number of foreign visitors arriving by sea.

"The cumulative non-local cruise passenger throughput this year has already reached the full-year level of 220,000 last year, and the year-end figure is expected to exceed last year’s figure by about 50 percent," the post read.

The bureau confirmed a number of inbound cruises in the coming months will either stay overnight or have an itinerary that ends in Hong Kong.

That means passengers will have ample time to explore and spend in the SAR.

Officials added they have been working with cruise companies to develop new itineraries and source markets, and pledged to keep the momentum going to revive the cruise industry.
