Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday said Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office chief Xia Baolong has affirmed the work of the SAR government and encouraged continuous reforms.

The CE met Xia in Beijing last Friday, on the sidelines of two events promoting economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the capital.

Ahead of the weekly Executive Council meeting, Lee said the director called for unity among all sectors of Hong Kong society.

"Mr Xia also said that he hoped that different sectors, especially the business sectors as well as the entrepreneurs in Hong Kong, can work together to seize opportunities and that they can work to pursue economic growth and development," he said.

"He hoped that we can convert our love for our country and Hong Kong into solid acts so that we can help Hong Kong to move from stability to prosperity."

Lee added that the government will take into account Hong Kong's conditions when deciding what kind of reform measures are needed.

"We have to plug the loopholes and shortcomings. We have to distinguish what kind of reform measures would benefit us and what kind of measures we have to step up and reinforce."
