Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday said the government is ready to welcome the flood of visitors expected during the National Day Golden Week holiday next week.

Ahead of the weekly Executive Council meeting, Lee said he expects the various celebratory activities organised by the SAR government to lead to about 1.15 million to 1.2 million visitor arrivals during the festive period, a 20 percent year-on-year increase.

There are about 850 organised tours coming to Hong Kong, an increase of 10 percent from last year, he added.

Lee said the government will ensure sufficient manpower is deployed at border control points, and the effective dissemination of information to deal with the influx of visitors.

“The chief secretary has made arrangements by liaising with different departments, including law enforcement agencies, to start preparations ... Services to maintain law and order in the general community will be done properly. We want to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone,” he said.

Lee added that he has been told by representatives of the food and beverage sector that turnover of HK$280 million is expected during Golden Week.
