Ocean Park chairman Paulo Pong on Thursday said two pandas given to Hong Kong as gifts from the central authorities might be able to meet the public this Christmas.
Pong said the pandas' journey from Chengdu to Hong Kong on Thursday went very smoothly and they have already started to adapt to their new home in the park's "Sichuan Treasures" facility.
"We believe we are the only place outside of the mainland to have six giant pandas in a single city, so we're very happy and fortunate to be in this position," he told reporters.
"We have a team of experts and veterinary team who are looking after them day and night and doing their job very well, and we believe we will be attracting a lot of new customers, new tourists, as well as locals and panda lovers to come to Ocean Park to see them."
Pong said there is currently enough space for all the pandas at the park, but new facilities could be added when the two newborns among them turn two or three.
He added that the park is currently preparing new merchandise to attract more visitors and bring in more revenue.
