Cathay Pacific has apologised to passengers after a fire broke out at one of its business class lounges at Hong Kong International Airport on Saturday.

Police said the blaze started just before 10 am and 250 people, including 50 staff members, had to be evacuated.

Firefighters put out the fire within an hour, and there are no reported injuries.

In a statement, Cathay Pacific said the fire had started at supporting facilities at the Pier Lounge, which is near Gate 65 in Terminal 1, and that staff immediately alerted firefighters.

The airline said the lounge was now closed for repairs until further notice.

It said it had arranged for passengers to transfer to other Cathay lounges prior to boarding, and it would be contacting eligible checked-in passengers about the new arrangements.
