A large-scale drone show marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China was cancelled on Monday due to a technical glitch.
The event, organised by the Tourism Commission, was to feature 2,099 drones, 1,000 students singing patriotic songs as well as performances from various youth groups at the West Kowloon Cultural District.
But a spokesperson said that the drone show was cancelled because the signal was severely interfered with, and earlier footage from the rehearsal was used to accompany the singing performances.
Several of the drones were seen parked on the lawn of the park.
"I am very disappointed when they said there was a technical glitch because we waited a very long time and couldn't see it. There was also a delay with the singing performance as well," a primary student surnamed Chan said.
The government issued a statement later saying the interference with the signal was most likely caused by the weather, and not by human intervention.
