The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) on Wednesday reminded people to get botox injections only from registered doctors, after a woman ended up in hospital with suspected botulism following a jab in Thailand.

The 34-year-old woman is in stable condition.

The CHP said she received botox in Bangkok last Wednesday, but suffered dizziness and weakness on Sunday and ended up in Tuen Mun Hospital on Tuesday.

She struggled to swallow and breathe and suffered chest pains.

She was unable to confirm the professional qualifications of the person who gave her the jab.

"In Hong Kong, botulinum toxin injections should only be performed by a locally registered doctor," the CHP said in a statement.

"Customers should verify the doctor's full name against the list of registered doctors of the Medical Council of Hong Kong as well as their professional qualifications and relevant experience."

The CHP also reminded people to make sure that the person giving the injections is properly qualified when receiving botox outside of Hong Kong.
