Police have arrested a driver whose van fatally struck a 75-year-old woman as she crossed the road in Sheung Wan on Wednesday afternoon.

The van was turning left off Des Voeux Road West into Wing Lok Street when it struck the woman at about 2.20pm. She was rushed unconscious to Queen Mary Hospital, where she was declared dead several hours later.

The driver, 36, is being held on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
