Castle Peak Hospital has unveiled a board game designed to help children who were reluctant to seek help from adults with their emotional and mental health concerns.

The game was distributed to about 500 secondary schools in Hong Kong and was designed to enhance students' knowledge of mental health issues while giving them the skills to deal with different emotions.

Dr Jessica Wong from the hospital's institute of mental health said the kit was different from other materials for schools.

"Most of the teaching materials are for the teachers and social workers to apply to the students, whereas our kit is for students to use themselves. Even when students are not willing to speak up, they could at least have some skills," she said.

"Inside the kit, there is information available, for instance, the website of 'Shall We Talk'. That contains many information, including online psychological support, so students could have access to this information, even when they are not willing to talk to the teachers about it."

Wong added that social workers and teachers could help identify students who might benefit from the game.
