The Observatory says it may replace the Standby Signal Number one with a Strong Wind Signal No. 3 between 9am and 11am and disrupting some classes as Severe Tropical Storm Trami skirts the SAR.
The Education Bureau said kindergartens and schools for children with physical and intellectual disabilities would be suspended for the day because of the likelihood that the No. 3 signal would be issued.
The Observatory said local winds are expected to pick up gradually in Hong Kong as the winds veer to the east later on, and some places which were previously sheltered become exposed.
However, it expects the winds to ease off gradually on Sunday morning as Trami leaves.
It said Trami was an estimated 560 kilometres south of Hong Kong, and is forecast to move across the South China Sea in the direction of the waters south of Hainan Island.
