Hong Kong Disneyland on Sunday wrapped up its weekend running event, with a record number of people attending.

Nearly 20,000 people – including children and those with visual, hearing and physical disabilities – signed up for the event, a record for the Hong Kong Disneyland 10K Weekend 2024.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan, one of the guests of honour, said it was the first time runners could jog through World of Frozen, the world’s first and largest attraction themed on the popular Disney franchise. Chan said this shows that the SAR is full of attractions.

“This event shows that as long as we use our brains to think of new ideas we can draw more people to Hong Kong because there are so many attractive places here,” he said.

“There are so many people from the mainland and other places in the world. We welcome you.”

One runner, dressed as Queen Anna from Frozen, travelled with her family from Thailand. She said she visits the SAR a lot and loves the city.

"Hong Kong, first of all, is close and another thing is like we enjoy local food very much. We like to taste food and all the culture and this trip I plan to take them on the tram to see all the scenery of Hong Kong," she said.

"I love it very much. The mountain, the ocean and the city is all so good."

Another participant, who is visually impaired, said he completed his first 10-kilometre race in about 70 minutes and that racing through the theme park was a whole new experience.

"The race in Disneyland is so different from other races. They play music in these races, while most races don't," he said.

"I think music is a form of motivation, and Disney music sounds really good. When they play it while you are running, it is like an adrenaline rush."
