Local stocks edged higher on Monday as investors looked towards a US presidential election that remains too close to call.

The Hang Seng Index picked up 61 points, or 0.3 percent, to close at 20,567.

Mainland stocks also gained ground with the Shanghai Composite Index up 1.17 percent to 3,310 and the Shenzhen Component Index climbing 2 percent at 10,663.
