China must combat rising unilateralism by opening up further to trade and investment, Premier Li Qiang said on Tuesday.
Li told the opening ceremony of the annual China International Import Expo that the country will look to upgrade its free trade zones and further explore free trade and investment agreements with other countries.
“In the face of the current impasses of global development, no one can stay unaffected and no one can solve these problems on their own,” Li said.
“Only by steadfastly embracing openness and cooperation and working together in unity can we harness the immense strength of all humanity to collectively to foster global development and prosperity.”
He also expressed confidence over the nation's ability to meet its growth target and its economic prospects in the coming years.
In his speech, Li pointed out there have been many positive developments in the nation’s economy indicating a favourable outlook.
Authorities also had fiscal and monetary tools at their disposal, he added. (Reuters)
