President Xi Jinping congratulated Donald Trump on his re-election to the White House, state media said on Thursday.

Xi said China-US cooperation is a long-term goal and the two countries should strengthen dialogue between them while properly managing their differences.

The president said history shows the two sides "gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation", according to Xinhua News Agency.

Xi said a stable, sound and sustainable China-US relationship serves their shared interests and meets the aspiration of the international community.

He expressed the hope that Beijing and Washington will uphold the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.

Vice President Han Zheng, meanwhile, extended congratulations to JD Vance on his election as vice president of the United States. (Reporting by Xinhua)
