Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday called for collaboration rather than confrontation with China after the signing of US$10 billion in new deals at a business forum in Beijing.
Prabowo told the China-Indonesia business forum that Jakarta wants to be part of Beijing's emergence as not only an economic but also a "civilisational power".
“We must give an example that in this modern age, collaboration – not confrontation – is the way for peace and prosperity,” he said.
At the forum, Gao Yunlong, chairperson of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, said China is ready to work with Indonesia to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and push for new achievements in bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
The two sides should set an example of win-win cooperation among developing countries, Gao added.
China and Indonesia agreed to strengthen cooperation in key sectors, including lithium, new energy vehicles, green energy and tourism, according to a joint statement which was released after a meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prabowo on Saturday.
The Indonesian leader on Sunday wrapped up the first stop of his first overseas trip since taking office three weeks ago. He is headed next to the United States and then to Peru and Brazil for the Apec and G20 summits. (Agencies)
