Chief Executive John Lee on Monday called on the business sector and entrepreneurs to actively contribute to Hong Kong's development.
Speaking at a forum, the SAR leader said businesspeople should take action to build up their industries, not stand idly by.
"The business sector and entrepreneurs in Hong Kong are both participants in and beneficiaries of Hong Kong's development. They should be contributors rather than bystanders. They shouldn't just be commentators," he said.
"In economic transitions, every industry in Hong Kong should start with themselves, taking actions to grasp opportunities for transformation, building Hong Kong with concrete actions, to develop and construct the future together."
Lee said his administration will transform the power of patriotism into concrete action to ensure long-term prosperity and stability.
He also said the government will continue to tackle obstacles and be innovative, and will make use of Hong Kong's advantages.
Lee said the SAR has to expand its global network to tell good stories of Hong Kong.
The CE said he hopes society and professional media practitioners will promote the region's advantages, achievements and opportunities to the world.
