President Xi Jinping says he is looking forward to having an in-depth exchange of views with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on further enhancing China-Brazil relations.
Xi made the remarks in a written statement upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro for the 19th G20 Summit and a state visit to Brazil.
The president arrived from Lima, where he had attended the Apec Leaders' meeting.
People from different walks of life lined the streets of Rio de Janeiro to welcome Xi, who arrived in the Brazilian city on Sunday afternoon, local time.
The welcoming crowds were seen waving Chinese and Brazilian national flags and holding banners adorned with messages offering a warm welcome, as the Chinese leader's motorcade passed by.
In his statement, President Xi noted that China and Brazil were marking 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties and it was important to build on past achievements while forging ahead.
He extended sincere greetings and best wishes to the government and people of Brazil, describing the two nations as like-minded friends with the same aspirations.
Xi said he felt very close to Brazil, having visited four times over the past 30 years and having witnessed development and changes.
President Xi said China and Brazil, as part of the voice of the Global South in the international arena, had made important contributions in promoting world peace and development.
He said he looked forward to attending the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit and was ready to work with all parties to jointly advocate an equal and orderly multi-polar world and inclusive economic globalisation.
The 19th G20 Summit will take place in Rio de Janeiro on Monday and Tuesday, under the theme of 'building a just world and a sustainable planet'. (Xinhua)
