The MTR Corporation on Thursday said its has finished installing platform screen doors at nine stations along the East Rail Line.
The rail operator said it expects to finish putting doors in at three more stations, Lo Wu, Mong Kok East and University Station, next year.
Chief engineering manager for system integration Maggie Chan said the gap between trains and the platform is relatively wide at these three stations.
She said the rail operator will reduce the gap when the automatic platform gates (APG) are installed, to ensure passenger safety.
"At the platform edge, there are the platform gap fillers. We will also widen the platform gap fillers to reduce the platform gap," Chan told RTHK.
"We will also have extra, additional broadcasting, so as to remind the passengers they have to pay attention to the platform gap after the APG opens."
