Two giant pandas gifted by the central government on Monday made their debut to the media after completing their quarantine at Ocean Park.

The pair, currently called An An and Ke Ke, are both five years old and showed their distinct personalities during the visit.

Ke Ke climbed up to her wooden platform and leisurely ate her bamboo leaves. An An was much more playful – he walked around exploring his habitat and rolled around on the ground while eating.

Ponyo, who works at the park's Whiskers Village, explained how to tell the pandas apart.

"For Ke Ke, she is like a princess. She loves to have her me time, and she's a bit curious about the environment outside, and she would like to stay a little bit quiet.

"But for An An, he's just like a boy. He's very strong, and he's very curious [about the] outside, and he would like to discover outside, see what is going on."

More than 22,600 suggestions have poured in for a naming contest of these national treasures, with the winning names set to be announced at the official debut ceremony on Saturday.

Hongkongers will be able to meet the pandas when their home opens to the public this Sunday.
