Hong Kong, China on Sunday defeated Romania 8-2 to take bronze at the International Table Tennis Federation Mixed Team World Cup in Chengdu, as Team China successfully defended their title.
Ng Wing-lam and Yiu Kwan-to handed the SAR the perfect start, after claiming all three games in their mixed doubles showdown over Elizabeta Samara and Ovidiu Ionescu by a final scoreline of 11-3, 11-6, 11-9.
Doo Hoi-kem and Wong Chun-ting, who were paired during the Paris Olympics in July, defeated Bernadette Szocs and Eduard Ionescu in back-to-back showings to put the SAR within one game of claiming the bronze medal.
Wong and Yiu rounded out the evening with an 11-4 win against Darius Movileanu and Ionescu to secure the prize.
Meanwhile, Team China, successfully retained their title after recording an 8-1 win over South Korea in the final.
That result gave the national team a clean sweep of the tournament, having won all 10 matches leading up to the final.
