Former lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting and six other defendants were on Thursday convicted of rioting in Yuen Long during the 2019 protests.

They were found guilty for their roles in clashes inside the Yuen Long MTR station on July 21 that year.

In his verdict, District Court judge Stanley Chan said the former Democratic Party lawmaker had "fanned the flames" by going to the station and asking his assistant to livestream the events there.

The prosecution had said that the defendant was using his capacity as a legislator to lead a group of protesters to provoke a rival group dressed in white.

Lam, 47, had pleaded not guilty.

He has been serving a separate sentence of six years and nine months for subversion, for his role in an unsanctioned Legco primary.
