President Xi Jinping has arrived in Macau for a three-day visit marking the 25th anniversary of the city's return to the motherland.
Speaking upon his arrival at the airport, Xi hailed Macau's development since 1999.
"Over the past 25 years, the One Country, Two Systems principle with unique Macau characteristics has achieved worldwide recognition, showcasing vibrancy and unique charm," the president said.
"The country's development is rapidly advancing, and its momentum cannot be stopped.
"Macau's vast development potential is being unleashed, and the future is promising. This is the pride of Macau residents and the pride for the entire nation."
The president added that Macau has a bright future.
"I believe as long as [Macau] gives full play to the advantages of One Country, Two Systems and is not afraid to strive and innovate, it can definitely create a better tomorrow.
"Macau is a jewel in China's crown, and I always have its development and the well-being of all its residents in my heart."
Xi and First Lady Peng Liyuan were greeted by hundreds of well-wishers as their plane landed at Macau International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
The president will oversee the inauguration of the SAR's new leader, Sam Hou-fai, and other members of his governing team on Friday.
He will also conduct an inspection tour and attend a gala dinner and a variety performance, among other activities, during his stay.
This is Xi's third visit to Macau as president, after 2014 and 2019.
Hong Kong's Chief Executive John Lee will travel to the gaming hub on Thursday to take part in the anniversary events there.
