A magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook China's northwestern province of Qinghai at 3.44pm on Wednesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).

No casualties or property damage have been reported.

The epicentre was at Madoi County in Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture at a depth of 14 kilometres, CENC data showed.

It comes only a day after an earthquake measuring 6.8 in strength hit the Tibet Autonomous Region in western China, leaving at least 126 people dead. (Xinhua/Reuters)
