The Security Bureau said another Hong Kong resident suspected of being lured to Southeast Asia to engage in illegal work has been rescused.

The bureau said the Immigration Department's Assistance to Hong Kong Residents Unit earlier received a request for help from the family of the SAR resident.

Officials said they immediately followed up and contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Office in Hong Kong, the Chinese Embassies in both Myanmar and Thailand and the Consulate General of Myanmar in Hong Kong for assistance.

A dedicated unit of the Security Bureau is working to bring the individual back to Hong Kong as soon as possible.

It's understood that the Hong Kong resident worked in a scam operation in Myanmar for four months before he was rescued and taken to a safe place in Thailand.
