The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge saw a surge in travellers over Lunar New Year, officials say, with the number passing through the Zhuhai port hitting a record high on Friday.
Border inspection authorities said 156,000 inbound and outbound passenger trips were made through that port on the third day of the Lunar New Year.
It was the highest number since the facility opened in 2018.
From Tuesday to Friday, more than 454,000 passenger trips were recorded through the port, marking a 22 percent increase when compared with the same period last year.
The Transport Department warned that it expected a large number of vehicles to use the bridge between Sunday evening and the early hours of Monday.
Officials in Zhuhai said people were having to wait more than 40 minutes for inspections on Sunday afternoon.
