The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) is demanding action from relevant authorities after two SAR ice hockey players were injured by their Turkmen counterparts at the Asian Winter Games on Sunday.
The two players are in a stable condition after getting checks by the team doctor and a local hospital.
The altercation came at the end of the men's Group C match between Hong Kong, China and Turkmenistan, which the SAR came away 5-1 winners.
According to Xinhua news agency, scuffles broke out when the two sides were shaking hands.
Videos circulating on social media showed multiple SAR players on the ice as they were attacked by their opponents. At least one of them, Alvin Sham, looked to be in pain as he clutched his head with both arms.
Referees and team officials then quickly intervened and broke up the fight.
The match report stated three Turkmen players were assessed "game misconduct" penalties.
In a statement, the SF&OC strongly condemned what it called the "deliberate attack and injury" by Turkmen athletes.
After reviewing video footage, Kenneth Fok, the Chef de Mission of Team Hong Kong, got in touch with relevant authorities and demanded disciplinary action be taken to ensure the personal safety of athletes.
Hong Kong won all three of its group matches and will fight for a quarter-final slot with Kyrgyzstan on Monday night.
