Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan on Tuesday spoke out against higher US tariffs on Chinese goods, including those from the SAR.

US President Donald Trump earlier signed an executive order imposing an additional 10 percent tariff on all Chinese imports, and the Hong Kong government said last week it would file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO).

"This is absolutely inconsistent with WTO rules... and also they have totally disregarded that Hong Kong is a separate customs territory," Chan said ahead of the weekly Executive Council meeting.

The SAR has been calling on the US to take immediate action "to rectify its wrongdoing".

Chan also described American policies as "constantly changing", causing inconvenience to people who wanted to send parcels to their relatives and friends in the US.

Parcel services to the US resumed on Tuesday after Washington confirmed it would not impose additional duty on mail items containing goods from Hongkong Post.

Hongkong Post had temporarily stopped accepting US-bound parcels, as the United States Postal Service last week suspended inbound parcels from mainland China and the SAR and then reversed the decision in less than a day.
