Hong Kong, China is one step closer to potentially securing its first medal at the Harbin Asian Winter Games, with the men’s curling team moving on to the semifinals on Thursday.
The team of Jason Chang, Martin Yan, Cheng Ching-nam and Chung Cheuk-hei beat Kazakhstan 8-5 in the playoffs to win their spot in the final four.
The SAR will go up against South Korea next, while the national team takes on the Philippines in the other semifinal match.
On the women’s side, the SAR team could not get past Kazakhstan in their final round robin match, ending their run for a spot in the semifinals.
Kazakhstan won 6-3 to put them in the final four with South Korea, China and Japan.
Meanwhile, team China won the women’s biathlon 4x6 kilometre relay in one hour, 29 minutes and 6.3 seconds.
The team of Tang Jialin, Wen Ying, Chu Yuanmeng and Meng Fanqi beat second-place finishers South Korea by 21 seconds, while Kazakhstan completed the podium.
In the men’s biathlon 4x7.5 kilometre relay, Japan won in one hour, 24 minutes and 20.3 seconds, while Kazakhstan and China came in second and third.
