Local shares opened lower on Wednesday led by drops in tech shares.

The Hang Seng Index dropped 199 points or 0.9 percent to 22,777 at the open of trade.

Shares of Alibaba, Meituan and Baidu each dropped about two percent.

Tencent was down 0.7 percent.

Profit-taking set in after the benchmark index closed at a four-month high on Tuesday.
