Police on Wednesday said they intercepted eight private cars in a citywide undercover operation targeting illegal ride-hailing services.

The eight drivers, aged between 36 and 63, were suspected of using their cars for illegal hire or reward.

Three vehicles were seized for further investigation.

"Police will continue to deploy manpower based on operational priorities to combat illegal vehicle hire or reward activities," said Cheng Ho-ming, a senior inspector with the force.

The officer did not reveal whether the eight drivers were arrested, and which ride-hailing platforms were involved.
