A motoring group has welcomed a change in the law which will allow drivers to use technology to get their cars to park themselves.
From March 1, it will be legal for motorists to use smartphones or other devices to enable remote control parking.
Honorary life president of the Hong Kong, China Automobile Association, Ringo Lee, told RTHK on Tuesday that the technology will be especially useful when parking in tight spots.
"I think it's absolutely safe for those who aren't familiar with driving, or even novice drivers. Because the vehicle itself makes use of a lot of technology... laser or infrared cameras, etc... to park. It's not parking arbitrarily," he said.
Lee said insurance companies should expand third-party insurance to cover drivers in the event an incident is caused by a faulty car system.
Other transport-related rule changes from March 1 include allowing dashboard monitors in vehicles to show non-driving related content once the handbrake is on, and more types of electric vehicles will be allowed to use expressways without the need for a permit.
