The SAR government has condemned members of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, accusing them of making baseless allegations against Hong Kong's national security law.
In a statement late on Thursday, the government dismissed what it described as a so-called resolution criticising Hong Kong's autonomy and its national security law, labelling it "political manipulation" and "reckless clamouring."
It called on the US to stop undermining Hong Kong's international reputation and interfering in Hong Kong matters.
A government spokesman said US politicians had time and again made skewed remarks about Hong Kong's situation and advocated imposing 'sanctions' on the SAR to undermine its rule of law and its prosperity and stability.
"National security is the foundation for prosperity and stability in society, as well as the well-being of the people," the spokesperson said, highlighting the success of the law in restoring order after the 2019 unrest and fostering Hong Kong's economic recovery.
The spokesperson also criticised the US for its double standards, noting that at least 21 countries, including the US, have enacted national security laws.
"The HKNSL complies with international human rights standards," they said, reaffirming that Hong Kong's legal system ensures freedom and protection under the Basic Law.
On ongoing legal cases, the spokesperson emphasised that all proceedings are based on evidence and the rule of law.
