The annual session of the country's top advisory body has concluded in Beijing, with a senior state leader calling on members to focus on the "big picture" and deepen unity.

President Xi Jinping and other officials attended the closing at the Great Hall of the People on Monday.

Wang Huning, the chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the meetings have achieved "fruitful results".

He also called on everyone to pursue unity and democracy, as he outlined directives for delegates in his speech.

"We must focus on deepening reform, advancing high-quality development, protecting and improving people's livelihood, and ensuring social stability, in carrying out our surveys and making suggestions and proposals," Wang said.

"We must serve the big picture and people's livelihood through high-quality consultation and suggestions, so as to deepen unity and solidarity."

The annual session of the nation’s legislature – the National People's Congress – will close on Tuesday.
