Hong Kong stocks ended flat on Tuesday with the benchmark Hang Seng Index down one point to close at 23,782.
The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index rose 0.35 percent to end at 8,755, and the Hang Seng Tech Index rose 1.39 percent to end at 5,967.
Overnight, the US stock market’s sell-off cut deeper as Wall Street questioned how much pain President Donald Trump will let the economy endure through tariffs and other policies in order to get what he wants. The S&P 500 dropped 2.7 percent to drag it close to 9 percent below its all-time high; the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 890 points, or 2.1 percent; while the Nasdaq composite skidded by 4 percent.
