The Hang Seng Index rose 77.09 points, or 0.32 percent, to open at 23,859.23 points on Wednesday.
On the mainland, the two main indices also opened higher. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.17 percent to 3,385.69 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.33 percent to 10,897.42.
Overnight, Wall Street stocks finished lower on uncertainty surrounding President Donald Trump's tariff threats, just one day after taking a dramatic plunge on the back of recession fears.
