Macau health authorities on Thursday said that a two-year-old girl from the SAR who was seriously injured in a shopping mall blast in Taichung has died.

The suspected gas explosion on February 13 hit the food court of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store, killing four on the spot and injuring about 30 others.

The Macau government announcement, made in the early hours of Thursday, noted that the girl had died on March 7, with authorities expressing deep sorrow over her passing and extending condolences to her family.

The two-year-old girl had been flown back to Macau on February 26. She was then brought directly to the Conde S Januario Hospital, where she was admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit.

The statement also said officials will provide psychological support and counselling to the girl’s family.
