The annual Art Central fair is returning to Central Harbourfront from Wednesday with works from more than 100 galleries around the world.

Corey Andrew Barr, the fair director, said he expects a good turnout for the event, which features workshops, installations and art performances.

“Last year we had over 40,000 people here and we expect to see something similar this year, if not greater,” he said.

To mark its 10th anniversary, the fair debuts the "Legend" gallery to highlight lesser-known artists from earlier generations.

Among the works on show is a collection by Japanese “rainbow artist” Ay-O as presented by Whitestone Gallery.

“So the Legend section is a new thing for us,” said Inessa Li, art adviser at Whitestone Gallery.

“For the art fair, we are just very honoured to participate in it and get more people to know this excellent talented artist.”

In partnership with the Tourism Board, the fair presents three artists who explored and created works inspired by Central and Sheung Wan, Yau Ma Tei and Sham Shui Po neighbourhoods.

Visitors can experience the creative process in a transformed art booth.

“Because they all have their own stories that are related to the neighbourhood through their artistic approach, we want to show what's the art related to the neighbourhood and what's the significance of Hong Kong's different areas,” said curator Shirky Chan.

The cornerstone art fair runs until Sunday.
