Secretary for Justice Paul Lam has stressed sanctions imposed by the United States "had no impact on him" and didn't affect his work and life, saying the best way to respond is to "remain calm and collected."
Lam, along with five other mainland and Hong Kong officials, were the latest to be placed on Washington's sanctions list.
On Tuesday, he said the grounds for imposing sanctions are "completely untenable."
Lam also called Washington's move a blatant act of hegemony and bullying that was an attempt to deter those involved in safeguarding national security.
To respond, he said, one should safeguard national security and interests, as well as Hong Kong's stability and prosperity more resolutely.
