The Hang Seng Index lost 39.53 points, or 0.17 percent, to open at 23,167 points on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.13 percent at the open, at 3,344 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index opened down 0.03 percent to 10,500 points.
