A fire at a nursing home in Hebei province has left 20 people dead, local authorities said on Wednesday.

The blaze broke out around 9pm on Tuesday in Longhua County, Chengde City.

Other residents of the elderly home were taken to hospital for observation.

Experts were heading to the scene to direct rescue work.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. (Xinhua)
