Labour chief Chris Sun on Thursday pledged that the government will implement the Ombudsman’s recommendations on construction site safety as soon as possible.

A safety inspection checklist and an online platform to monitor records were among 40 recommendations the watchdog had put forward to tackle the issue.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Construction Safety Award Presentation Ceremony, Sun said one area to be explored is the use of technology to boost safety.

“As many people are aware, a key focus is leveraging technology. The Labour Department will begin using small drones for inspections and evidence collection in the second half of this year,” he said.

Sun also stressed it is crucial to foster an industry-wide culture where everyone prioritises safety.

He said authorities will intensify efforts to promote this mindset and show no mercy to those “law-breaking, fraudulent” people.

Sun added that some suspected cases involving fraudulent practices have been referred to police for criminal investigation.
