The government on Monday said it was concerned about Sunday's delays on the East Rail Line, caused by an engineering train that malfunctioned near Fo Tan Station. Although trains continued to run, travelling times were lengthened by 10 to 15 minutes.
In a statement, the government said initial findings show the incident was caused by an equipment fault that stopped the train's lifting platform from lowering. And as the platform was close to overhead wires, extra precautions had to be taken before the train could be moved.
It's the second incident involving an engineering train this year. In February, a train broke down near Tai Wo Station causing disruption.
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department is investigating and will review the way the MTR maintains its engineering trains.
The government has also asked the railway firm to review the incident and submit a report.
